چکیده

Under the assumptions that SU(3)c × U(1)Y ×G ′ with G simple is a local symmetry group at high energies, that color is parity-conserving, and the Ycharges are irreducible, we show that anomaly constraints imply the minimal set of fermions is fifteen in number. Given this minimal set, we further show that G must be SU(2) and the unbroken gauge symmetry is either color or the product of color with electric charge. * Work supported by a U.S. Department of Energy Grant No. DE-FG0585ER-40219 † Work supported by the National Science Foundation Grant No. PHY91-19745

Neutrino Masses and Mixing: Leptons versus Quarks

Comparison of properties of quark and leptons as well as understanding their similarities and differences is one of the milestones on the way to underlying physics. Several observations, if not accidental, can strongly affect the implications: (i) nearly tri-bimaximal character of lepton mixing, (ii) special neutrino symmetries, (iii) the QLC-relations. We consider possible connections between ...

Composite Weak Bosons: a Lattice Analysis

The Standard Model [1] (SM) describes the strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions by a gauge theory based on the group GSM = SU(3) × SU(2) × U(1) which is broken by the Higgs mechanism to SU(3)×U(1). The theory is essentially determined once the matter fields and their transformation under the local gauge transformations of GSM are specified. The matter fields (leptons and quarks) and the...

A Possible Way of Connecting The Grassmann Variables And The Number of Generation

We construct a Left-Right symmetric model in which the number of generation is related to Grassmann variables. We introduce two sets of complex Grassmann variables (θ q , θ 2 q), (θ 1 l , θ 2 l ) and associate each variable with leftand right-handed quark and lepton fields, respectively. Expanding quark and lepton fields in powers of the Grassmann variables, we find that there are exactly three...

Triplicity of Quarks and Leptons

Quarks come in three colors and have electric charges in multiples of one-third. There are also three families of quarks and leptons. Whereas the first two properties can be understood in terms of unification symmetries such as SU(5), SO(10), or E6, why there should only be three families remains a mystery. I propose how all three properties involving the number three are connected in a fivefol...

Quark-Lepton Quartification

We propose that quarks and leptons are interchangeable entities in the high-energy limit. This naturally results in the extension of [SU(3)] trinification to [SU(3)] quartification. In addition to the unbroken color SU(3)q of quarks, there is now also a color SU(3)l of leptons which reduces to an unbroken SU(2)l. We discuss the natural occurrence of SU(2)l doublets at the TeV energy scale, whic...
